Different cultures have different cultural stories, myths and legends. Surprisingly, many stories have similar elements. Most cultures have stories about creation of earth, lakes, animals and people. Did you know that many cultures have a story about a flood that covers the earth? Or that an initiator (sometimes a spirit or a god) thinks, says, sings or dreams something that is becoming real.

Let your students find out that different cultures have the same elements. Hopefully, this creates more understanding for different cultures.

Students get to know the story behind the Titanic myth. After reading the text, students do a join-up exercise as well as a word grit. Furthermore they can do a re.writing exercise and a description. 

The Titanic - a unsinkable myth

This is an ice breaker for more advanced students. I usually use it when talking about movies. Thanks to movies, we are led to believe a lot of things are just dramatic. After reviewing all the pictures, I then divide students into small groups asking them which myth they found most surprising and if there are other myths they have from watching movies they then realize it doesn't work in reality.
