Here are some nice English puzzles. They are good fun for students as they not only have to deal with the English Language, but also with some Mathematics. We have used it with our pre-intermediate groups as an inter-disciplinary activity and it was very successful! 

Some English Puzzles

Aim: to try to complete a family of ordinal numbers



One family: 1st, 11th, 21st, 31st, 41st, 51st

Another family: 2nd, 12th, 22nd, 32nd, 42nd, 52nd etc



2 to 5 players.



Choose who comes first, second, ...



The first student asks the person of her/his choice "Do you  have (second)?"



If the person asked has the card, s/he gives it to the asker. The asker gives  her/him a card back.



If not, the asker takes a card from the pile and discard another one.



Language: Do you have ...? - Yes, I do. Here you are - No, I don't. Take a card from the pile!

Ordinal Numbers Family Game

a dominos game to revise the figures and the numbers in English. This is meant for A1 and A1+ pupils. This fun activity can motivate them and help them learn while playing.

This game can be used to practice a number of grammar points. You can also use it to stimulate conversation on the topic of money and material possessions. All you need is the game and scissors.

Money conversation game

A card game - variation on Happy families. More than two players are needed. cards are dealt out and students take it in turns to ask "Have you got..a blue 4?" They have to collect a whole set of either one colour or a number sequence. Cards can be used to practice as many numbers as you like (1-20), for example start with numbers 1-5, with more advanced students try a whole set of 1-20. 

Another variation would be just collect a set of the same number in a predetermined set of colours *- e.g. a set of number 1 in red/blue/green/yellow only. 

I recommend to print out on A3 sheet of paper and laminate for durability.

This is a bingo to review vocabulary items (namely: clothes, letters, numbers 11-20, animals, places, and food). There are different charts for each player. You can edit the grids and add any picture/number/letter you prefer (remember that each chart should have the same number of items --there can be some white spaces if you like). At the bottom of the file, there is a list of all the items that can be found in the charts. You should cut these words and mix them. Game instructions: 1) Give each participant a chart. 2) Mix the isolated words in an opaque bowl/jar/bag 3) One person has to pick up one word at a time from the bowl and say it out loud 4) The participants who have the corresponding item in their charts should mark it with a bean 5) The winner is the participant who has all their items marked (When they realize they are done, they should shout "Bingo!").

*Tips: You can glue the copies on a cardboard to reinforce the chart. It's a great idea to use beans to mark the items that have been raffled.

Bingo -Numbers

The purpose of the game is to practise ordinal numbers from "first to twenty- third" and "thirty" & "thirty- first" in 3 different forms: first/ 1st/ image/ and a mini grid where you put the 31 days in a month. 

The rules are the same as for any Slap it game. Deal out all the cards among your students and when any of the number forms coincides "BOOM"!

I think it´s a good way for students to practise and enjoy at the same time

This is a boardgame for pre-beginner kids in kindergarten. On the board, there are colours, numbers to count and in the empty spaces, you can put everything from your current topic.

It's a bingo game to practice phone numbers. The teacher can read out the phone numbers or choose students to read them aloud. There are eight sets and I imagined it using it as a teamwork or pairwork.
