The Odd One Out

The students will have to pick one that doesn't quite fit. The topics are mixed, the sheet includes easy ones and ones that are more difficult. Key sheet included. Suitable for teenagers

Students find the odd word in each box and write the category for the remaining words. There are some tricky ones among the tasks.

This is a fun activity for young learners to do as a warmer, cooler or as homework.

I have included a variety of levels in this, plus for some there are more than one answer, so it is a bit more open for students to think about. An example of this is the Africa, America + Japan, one student may say the odd one out is Japan, because of Japan not being a continent, but another student may say it's Japan, because it doesn't start with the letter A, so since they are both correct and not 'wrong' it encourages discussion if you have put the students into groups.

This could be done as an individual task or as pairs or groups.

This worksheet is aimed at young learners’ checking their knowledge of such topics as toys, colours, numbers and classroom objects. Each line includes three words from the same topic and one from a different one, and the students need to circle the odd one out

The first page they have to match the picture to the word.



The second page they have to circle the odd or picture that doesn't fit in the group. Ex. Number 1 is: Ball, Ball, Doll, Ball. The student must circle ball.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well
