Instructions to Operate Electrical Appliances

There are a whole host of benefits to intentionally promoting clear and shared classroom rules and expectations. A survey of the research demonstrates some of the obvious benefits, such as:

Students know what to expect and they understand the learning tasks better (Wentzel, 2006).

Things in the class run more smoothly with less confusion (Grusec & Goodnow, 1994).

Students have a clearer sense of what it takes to perform (Hines, Cruickshank & Kennedy, 1985).

Some other benefits of having clear classroom rules and expectations that are less obvious, are:

Expectations that are clear and shared are essential to help foster the cause-and-effect relationship between actions and consequences. Without clarity and a shared understanding, consequences feel arbitrary. The result is that they will have less benefit and be experienced as more punitive and result in more resentment and less behavior change.

The absence of clear expectations will create practical problems and an environment of uneasiness in the class that will lead to confusion, frustration and hostility when expectations clash.

An intentional approach to promoting expectations helps them become more concrete and meaningful. When expectations exist as words (or privately held assumptions), they remain abstractions. They must be “operationalized” to be effective.

Expectations help the class interpret events and actions as examples or non-examples of “things that are making us better”.

Students can practice cardinal numbers from 1 to 100 with this puzzle, learn the vocabulary and do some math operations using plus, minus, by and divided by. They need to solve the problems in order to answer the puzzle.

Family cooperation

It is a TPR activity. Students are in groups of three or four. They need to work together to fill in the missing words in the text. They need to talk about graamr and need to know the meaning of the words to find the suitable word for each line.

Word cards are cut out and pilrd on the floor some distance away (10 meters). Student take turns collecting a word and work out where it goes.

It takes just a couple of minutes to learn how to create short dialogs/sketches using the xtranormal moviemaker tool, which will turn studentsÂ text input into spoken dialogs. Students will have a lot of fun creating their own movies, and in the meantime theyÂll engage in genuine language use while trying to make their scenes work.



PROCEDURE: 

1.	Show students the basic moviemaking tools at xtranormal.com. 

2.	Have them work in pairs to boost their creative capacities and teamwork skills.

3.	Each student choose their own character, and take turns typing their lines in the dialog.

4.	Walk around and give ideas to students who get lost for ideas.

5.	Watch the short movies,  and discuss them with the ÂdirectorsÂ and the audience.
