This phonemic crossword can be used in conjunction with "jobs" vocabulary. It can be used for higher levels depending on how well your students know their phonemes. I used the Oxford Advanced Dictionary for the pronunciation phonemes.

I created these worksheets using phonetic symbols to give my students practice identifying different phonemes and to help them become familiar with some of the many ways we spell each sound.  I have tried to group the phonemes in each worksheet according to the sounds that students from different countries find difficult to differentiate. Enjoy.

The Phonemic Alphabet

A fun activity to use the phonemic sounds to create music.  I have used this with adults and teens to much hilarity.  I even have some great rap beat videos as a result.



I usually introduce the topic by writing /da:/ four times across the board.  I teach them the two different sounds, then the two sounds together.  They then have to repeat the sounds as I point to them.  Using no particular timing we do this twice.  Then we do it to create the well know Beethoven intro.....  get the picture.  Students then use the sounds you have chosen for that lesson to create their own piece of music, which they then perform, each person having their own sound to make.  the only limit here is their imagination.



Fully editable, feel free to replace the phonic symbols on front page to that of your own preference.  I just happened to be trying to tie my lesson to their study book.

Phonemic Pronunciation Orchestra

Good phonetics practice.  This is a story that has a lot of difficult sounds in it for many learners but especially Korean learners.  It can be used many ways, as a listening activity, running dictation, speaking activity.  Works with tricky words like day/they, rock/lock and many more.  My favorite way to use it is with as a running dictation after a lesson on many of the difficult sounds involved in the story.

 An worksheet created for my EAL primary children KS2 after reaching phase 5 using jolly phonics and Letters and Sound strategies! The words on page 3 can be changed regularly and the phoneme frames shortened. Enjoy!

The students read the story and highlight the phonemes long ai using ey. Alternatively the teacher can read the story and the students write down the ey words as they hear them.

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
