Sorting activity to practive the difference between pronunciation of televesion (zhh) and musicioan (shh)

TIP: ask the students to put their fingers on their voice box/adam's apple to feel the vibration of the vocal chords, the difference between shhh and zhh can be felt as shh is unvoiced. 

Phonics '..tion' sorting activity

First part. Teacher reads the words that have "ai" sound and students circle the correct words.



Second part. Students draw lines between the pictures to the correct words.



Third part. Students have to find 5 words that have "ai" sound.





This worksheet is recommended for students age 5-6 years old.

Children have to read and recognise the phonic cr- and fr-. In the first part, they have to connect the pictures to the correct words. In the second part, they have to trace the letters and also try to write it themselves. In the last part, they have to circle the words with cr- and fr-.

First letter and vowels phonics 

As an ESL teacher I often find that a lot of worksheets in activity books lack enough activities and are filled with a lot of empty space. The activities that are provided take a few seconds to do before moving onto the next page and rarely review or expand on what they have learned.

These phonics worksheets were created to give students a wide range of activities that would allow them to improve their writing, reading and comprehension skills and to increase their vocabulary. Each section builds on the last, starting with the basic writing practice to reading a short story for which they will illustrate later. I have had great success in using them with my own students, especially for those that lack focus and it also gives them a good sense of progression as they work their way towards the final activity.



In my own classes I try and use the worksheets in the following way, but feel free to use them however feels most beneficial to your own students:



Before handing out the worksheets check what vocabulary the students already know for the given letter.



Demonstrate how to write the uppercase and lowercase letter on the board.



Introduce the 5 new vocabulary



Give a short explanation of each of the 4 activities.



Most students should be able to go through the worksheet by themselves once they have done it once.



Note: If some students are completing parts too quickly, ask them to call for the teacher to check once they have completed a single activity.

A board game for students to spell the words and say the words correctly. Students can have a revision about words with sounds 'oa' 'ou' 'ow' 'oe'. Through this boardgame, students can practise these words with these o sounds.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
