A Holiday in the Lake District of England - Reading & Grammar

Due to the lack of speaking sub-skills worksheets available on the net, I put this together for a group of advanced/proficiency university students. It is based on a podcast from the British Council but I chose not to use the recording as the way they speak would have insulted my student's intelligence!

Feel free to adapt and use as you see fit!

Central Park

This lesson is based on an episode from the podcast called Our American Stories available on Spotify or their website here http://www.ouramericannetwork.org/story?title=Ketchup-King-The-H-J-Heinz-Story. The episode itself is almost 40 min long and is full of fascinating info, but the total listening required to do the tasks is about 8 minutes in total (in two-three minute chunks). Ketchup (or other condiments and spices) is something everyone has an opinion on, so this worksheet should provide for a fascinating discussion.

This is another multi-skill worksheet based on Our American Stories podcast. Students listen, read and talk about the inspiring story or a man who just refused to give up. There is a vocabulary point at the end focusing on the expression 'to be instrumental in...'.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
