MACHINES AND FORCES: PUSH, PULL, TWIST

Different exercises to work that we use a machine to do something and to learn about forces, the difference between push, pull and twist, etc.

it is an easy worksheet for children to practice speaking about abilities (can, can't) in a funny way. It consists of 15 questions. Students have to answer with simple " I can" or "I can't". Dare your students to prove if what they are saying is true. For example ask them to bark like a dog or do a push-up ;)

Content:

•	3 overview cards with the pictures and the words

o	Print one for the game leader and one to hang in front of the classroom

•	Word cards  (cut them apart)

•	30 bingo cards for the students (print 2 pages on 1 sheet)

What you need more:

•	16 buttons or little stones for each student



Game procedure:

The game is played on a scorecard that's made up of 16 squares — if you get 4 squares in a row, you win!

•	All the players get a bingo card with 16 squares/pictures

•	The leader takes a card from a pile and reads the verb. He puts this card on the right place of the overview cards to know which words he already read.

o	If the player has the corresponding picture on his card he puts a button on its place. If he has 4 buttons on a row, he wins the game. 

(The leader can check with his overview cards if the player played the game correctly)

•	You can go on with the game with a new goal: a full card. Who can cover all the pictures wins.

I would say this lesson plan is probably most suitable for upper intermediate (B2) students.

As you'll see in the lesson plan, students discuss topics and questions related to video veganism, depending on whether they are vegan or not. Students also learn some of the important compound words they'll hear in the video such as livestock, greenhouse gases, and biodiversity. There are also some really useful phrasal verbs presented in the video, which is why I decided to features some activities on them. These include phrasal verbs such as account for, take up, and cut down.



There is a short grammar activity on second conditional, which seemed to be pretty prevalent as a grammatical theme in several cases throughout the video, including...



"If we all became vegan, greenhouse emissions would be slashed.”



"If everyone in the world ate a vegan diet, around 8 million deaths could be avoided by the year 2050”



You can follow everything up with additional discussion (agree / disagree / partially agree or disagree) based on the following topics...



- It’s natural to eat animals.

- Vegans have healthier lifestyles than those who eat meat.

- It’s wrong for vegans to push meat eaters towards becoming vegans.



From the creator’s standpoint, my favorite part of the lesson is the writing topic right after the agree / disagree topics, in the middle of Post-Viewing 3, in which students have to think from the perspective of a cow, and write a message to humans expressing support for veganism. A little silly, sure, but a fun one that will get students thinking in a creative way!

What If Everyone In The World Went Vegan? - ESL Lesson Plan

A dice is also needed. For two to six players although eight could be done at a push with only 5 cards to each player. Two players could extend their cards to eight each Print out the cards double sided and laminate. The packs that have the scenarios have a number printed on the back. There should be 6 mini packs like this and they should be placed face down on the table. The phrasal verb cards have questions marks on the back and they should be handed out to the players, 6 each. The first player throws a dice and picks up a context card from the corresponding number on the pack. The player reads out the context and places it in front of the pack face up. If anybody has a phrasal verb card that corresponds exactly with the context given, they then throw their card into the middle of the table. The next person throws the dice and the process is repeated. The game finishes when one of the packs is depleted of cards or one of the players has thrown down all of their cards. The winner is the person with the least cards.

Students have just taken their first lesson on forces including gravity, rolling, bouncing, pushing, and pulling.  Students will read the question and look at the picture to determine the answer.

Students complete a crossword puzzle by filling in the blanks with the correct personality adjectives based on the given clues. This activity helps learners strengthen their vocabulary, improve spelling, and practice using descriptive words about people’s character and behavior. It also encourages peer discussion and active engagement with the language.

This activity aims at pushing the student to discuss on questions dealing with the future. 

I personally use it the way a speed-dating works: 2 minutes for each student and then they change. They have to try and speak as long as possible on the topic chosen by their classmate.

Talking about the future

In this developed version of ALIBI, students play the roles of suspects in a murder mystery, except in this version, there is an actual murderer. You will distribute these character cards (7) to students, and have the rest play police officers. The characters can spend 10 minutes socializing and interacting with each other, while the police officers prepare questions for the investigation (they'll be briefed about the main plot).

After, you can start the interrogation whichever way you'd like (characters interrogated in isolation, or do it as a speed-dating style, each character interviewed by an officer across the class).
Tips: students should not share the "secrets" in their cards (only if absolutely necessary), they also have the freedom to make up additional details about their characters when convenient.
