Father's Day Sayings

I want to teach my students some of the English sayings and have thus created some cards that can be used in different ways. I.e. use them as flash cards or put them on display on the walls in your classroom.

Sayings - matching task

Most popular sayings divided into 2 halves for your students to match them. Perfect for warm-ups, ice-breaking. You can ask your students to explain their meaning or ask them to give examples of usage. 

An exercise on the use of say and tell. There are thirty sentences so it may be a good idea to do half of the worksheet in one lesson and the other half in the following one (or set it as homework).

SAY OR TELL

A list of synonyms of the word SAY must be used in the sentences on the right. A second exercise has another four synonyms of say which must be matched with their definitions.

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
