These are some more examples of Murphy's Law that are pretty common. I was doing a lesson and asked the class to come up with their own on the spot. Everyone was silent and couldn't think of anything. So I used this.

This sheet can be used to teach ESL learners about some common cases of silent letters.

Each case is explained in a simple manner followed by examples.

Common silent letters cases

In this TPR activity - students will be able to practise using present continuous in a fun way.



-Stand up in front of the class and mime running ask the class what you\'re doing and elicit a full sentence - ask a student to come up to the front - whisper an action in his ear and let him perform the action while the rest of class attempt to guess what the action is.



-Cut up the cards and distribute them to pairs (make sure they\'re familiar with some of the vocabulary - knit- sew...)

-One Student reads picks up a card reads it silently and mime the action, while his partner tries to guess it using the right structure "you\'re taking a shower//are you taking a shower?" - insist on the students using full sentences including the object.

-the pair with most guessed cards are the winners -



Variation: they can stand in two lines in front of each other and start the activity - give a time limit and students swap partners



-I have updated the worksheet by adding points to each card (1-5) with 5 difficult to mime/guess  and 1 easy.

It's a sum up phonetic revision Key. It includes silent letters, final "s" and final "ed" pronunciation, the prefixes of negation and the suffix " tion" and the diphtongs.
