A short and easy quiz to sort new students into the desired Hogwarts house. The questions will also lend an introduction to the students level and comfort with English. To get the results is up to you: I sorted my students into the houses I perceived they should be placed. 

Harry Potter Sorting Hat Quiz 

The sorting ceremony from Harry Potter is something extremely fun to do. To proceed, since I don't have the hat, I use little pieces of paper in a bowl and I use a pointy hat such as the sorting hat in Harry Potter. The kids take their pick and they get a certificate which they stick in their notebook.

After that, you can do a little matching exercise to identify the vocab on the certificates (lower levels).

Two exercises where students as asked to describe an image.


The first image is film still from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Students are asked to write 5 sentences about the image. If you wish to project the original image to see it in more detail, it can be accessed via the QR code on the worksheet.


For the second task, students as asked to describe a photograph they have stored on their phone or computer as appropriate. They are asked to write descriptive sentences to describe the image. If you have the means available, their images can be printed and glued to the worksheet.


This activity can be used for any level student, you can prompt them with questions to use any target language you are studying.
