A selection of English ESL sound printables

A fun way for young learners to learn phonics and express likes. My Grade 1 primary students find it easy to associate the initial sounds with the fruit, as fruits are easy to learn. They can also choose their favourite fruit and draw a picture to express themselves.

Fruit Phonics

First go over questions to make plans and both positive and negative responses.  ie "Let's go swimming" or "Why don't we see a movie?" "Sure, sounds good."  "Sorry, I can't." etc.  The students secretly put their battleships in their oceans, and get into pairs.  They attack by trying to make plans on the given days, and the partner responds based on whether they hit or missed the battleship.

A small worksheet on minimal pairs that tries to address typical pronunciation problems for Spanish students. An answer sheet is provided. It's a good idea to get them to do both pronunciations and then compare the sounds.

While I was reading superstitions,I noticed there are a bunch of them that sound anachronistic today, e.g. "Never carry a hoe into the house," or "ItÂs bad luck to let a fire go out on New YearÂ´s Eve." Why not modernize them a bit? Page 1. includes the nice, original fonts, embedded in the image, upon which I superposed the five sentences and the discussion questions in text boxes in case youÂ´d want to edit them. On Page 2 all of the text is editable, including the title and the introduction. Page three features a vocabulary list. You could start the class with giving just the key words of the superstitions, and letting Ss guess, e.g. "You carry a hoe into the house," "What will happen?" Enjoy! PS. If you have time, let me know if this activity worked in your class, since I just created it, and havenÂ´t tried it yet.) I am open to some suggestions on how to improve it. Bless up, Kisdobos :)
