Listening practice: (-ed) ending sounds for simple past regular verbs

A worksheet dealing with phonetics and some of the major difficulties my students usually have (maybe the same as yours). There are 7 exercises to differentiate vowel and consonant sounds, to differentiate z and s sounds an three exercises with the ending “ed” sound of regular verbs in the past. After the students do the exercises, they’ll find the transcriptions on the second page for auto-correction. The teacher may want to check it orally after their own correction. These worksheets are to help students distinguish between the unvoiced 's' and voiced 'z' sound. Practise the pronunciation of each pair of words with the class, highlighting the difference between the sss and zzz sound in each pair of words. Then give them the picture sheet and students match the pictures to the right pairs of words. I used lots of example sentences to clarify the meaning and also show the correct pronunciation, I think it worked pretty well. Hope you find this useful.

Students hear the animal names and have to circle the animal if it has a long a sound. Once they've circled the animals they should count how many have the long a sound and put the number in the box. Then they can color the animals. This exercise helps with letter sound identification.
