In this worksheet, you will find three tasks. In the first one, students have to complete the sentences in comparative form. In the second one, they should use superlative form. In the last task, they are supposed to decide which adjective form to use and complete it with the correct form. Key is not included but if you find it difficult, I will add it. Hopefully, you will find it suitable for your students.

Comparison of adjectives

A worksheet designed with simlies in mind. Encourage students to 'predict' which words they will hear before listening. First task has  minimal writing-simply underline the word you hear-whilst the second task is a more traditional gap-fill from word provided in the box. Very popular now with students as song used in advertising for Microsoft and Samsung products. Direct students to Youtube video of lyrics to 'sefl check' their efforts.

Pyramid conversation discussion. Contains instructions. Students work alone to pick 3 items they'd take to a desert island (from a list of mostly useless objects). Then they must compromise with a partner and choose 3 together. Then once again in a group of 4. Works well with opinion vocabulary (I think we should; perhaps we ought to... etc.) and conditionals (if we were to take the sheep, we could..) and many other possible ways.

It will need some modification for younger learners, as one of the pictures is vodka.

Comparison of adjectives - training

PREPARATION:

This activity requires you to make a die or cards to select from the following attributes;

weight: heavy/light

size: small/big

age: young/old

strenght: strong/weak

speed: fast/slow

height: tall/short



The character cards also need to be cut up.



ACTIVITY:

The idea is to separate students into two teams or put them in a competition bracket.  One person selects the attribute, for example, heavy, and the competing students select blindly from the character cards.  The non-participating students ask the question selected, "Who is heavier, A or B?"  The two participating students reply, "A is heavier than B."  



Note: The characters are mostly recognizable to about 3rd grade elementary students and up
