Song The XX - Islands

Listening practice with Islands by The XX. Students are required to fill in the blanks while listening to the song. There are some parts underlined to show linking sounds (not all, but those can be heard in the song), you can inform students to give special attention to the parts.

The XX: Islands -  lyrics listening

Students are required to fill in the blanks or circle the answer while listening to the song. Teachers can have students look through the lyrics before listening, especially with beginners. There is really a lot you can do with this type of activity, depending on how long your class is, how many classes you want to spend on it. Have fun and enjoy the tune!

On this worksheet the students have to choose between who, which and that.



In the beginning there is a short explanation on how and when to use each preposition.

This is a standart boardgame.

-> If the students get the number correctly, they may move one space ahead and if they don't, one space back. 

I like to play this game at the end of class as a simple review.

I believe it is fairly obvious, how the game works. I used this worksheet at the end of the year to review some of the vocabulary my students have learned this year.

5 seconds rule

I created a bunch of worksheets like this. My kids enjoy learning the numbers and colours this way. It's also a good way to use the last few minutes of class when the students are starting to lose their concentration.

Dragon coloring

This is a fun memory game, that helps the children learn fruits and vegetables. 

-> I glue the pictures on different coloured cardboard as the words, so they always pic one of each.

I used the first chapter of Harry potter and the sorcerers stone to make a bunch of different worksheets. There are grammar, vocabulary and text apprehension tasks.

Students are trying to find 5 characters by asking their partner "What is XX doing?".



The partner responds with the present progressive of each character. Ex: Frank - play table tennis: "Frank is playing table tennis."



After the speaking portion, students write full sentences for each character.

Past Simple. Irregular Verbs



This is a neat way to learn new vocabulary. As the domino stopps when both ends show the matching ends, i have the students play a couple of rounds.
