For the students whose English is a second language

This worksheet is to help ss try to say and write simple sentences with family members.

The idea comes from a Russian course book I use in my teaching,(actuaaly, I copied the empty family tree from this book)and created a similar English worksheet. My pupils loved it. The single statements about the family members don´t give them too much information, so it was interesting and challenging for them to find out who is who. So solving this task is not only a good vocabulary practice but a serious reading comprehension at the same time. We can also give extra scores for those who can finish their job in a given time. Competition always motivates students! One more comment. Be aware, the lines that show relation between the members are important too.



Family tree

This is a reading comprehension for beginners. The learners revise verb be in Present Simple and prepositions of place. If learners color the pictures, the teacher may have a talk about colors, places, things in the stocking and under the tree.  

Christmas tree

In second page there are pictures of 9 members of the family. Teacher can stick them to the board and write the names of them under and ask the students to hit them with the ball. In first page there are the same members of the family in a form of tree upside down and the names of them by side for the students to match. After the matching they can be asked to draw the members of their family in the backside of the worksheet in the classroom or as homework.

Students look at the family tree and complete the sentences using relationship vocabulary.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
