A selection of English ESL word order sentence structure printables

This document has got 4 pages. In total there are 32 sentences to put in order. You can use it as a worksheet or cut the sentences one by one and laminate them. It covers different structures.

Sentences to order

There are six sentences with its pictures. Pupils have to rearrange the words and write correct sentences. It helps to understand the structure of simple senteces.

The students have to write the sentences with the words in the correct order. This downloadable teaching material is intended for  elementary school.  Individual worksheet.

This is to practice the English sentence structure (Subject - Verb - Object - Adverb - Preposition).

Cut out the strips, then cut into pieces. Mix up the pieces of each sentence, and have students put the words in the correct order.

If students have some knowledge of English, you can practice making new sentences by replacing the words in each.

Sentence Structure & Word Order

Through this creative task, you can enhance your students' grammar knowledge of Verb "to be" and its usage in some simple sentences while using their imaginative skills.

Instructions




1.	Cut out all the pieces.




2.	Separate the pieces into their categories (1~3)




3.	Put the be verb, article, s, and ? pieces to the side.




4.	Start with 1. Mix up all the sentence pieces.




5.	Have the students put them in the correct order. Have them add the correct be verb, article, s, and ? pieces.





** Important: Practice declarative, negative, and interrogative sentence separately. So, for example, to practice declarative, you will need the am, is, are, a, and s pieces, but NOT the not and ? pieces, which are used for negative and interrogative practice (respectively). You can also practice negative interrogatives.

** Extra Practice – If students have some knowledge of English, you can practice making new sentences by replacing the words with new nouns and adjectives.





** Optional – Use the last page as a template to translate each sentence into the students’ native language, and have them place the sentence pieces next to each sentence.

Through this task students can enhance their syntactic and vocabulary skills. The exercise include jumbled sentence parts which are required to be ordered to make complete functional sentences. It also includes pictures to be matched with the ordered sentences in order to foster students' imaginative skills.

Sentence structure

Ss will practice grammar and sentence structures by putting words in the correct order to complete sentences. Once they have finished they need to put the sentences in order to make a comprehensible conversation. You can edit the conversation to suit your curriculum's needs and student's level.

Scrambled Words Conversation

Forming sentences - comparative structures. Students have to complete sentences and put word in order to form correct sentences, using comparative and superlative structures. Students can start discussions about the statements in task A.

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
