i used this worksheet along a YouTube video to introduce S and Z sounds. The students match the words to the pictures and then look more words in a dictionary. 

This worksheet is also a good introduction to using a dictionary. Enjoy :)

S and Z sounds 

These worksheets are to help students distinguish between the unvoiced 's' and voiced 'z' sound. Practise the pronunciation of each pair of words with the class, highlighting the difference between the sss and zzz sound in each pair of words. Then give them the picture sheet and students match the pictures to the right pairs of words. I used lots of example sentences to clarify the meaning and also show the correct pronunciation, I think it worked pretty well. Hope you find this useful.

Minimal Pairs - pronunciation of s and z sounds with picture activity

A worksheet dealing with phonetics and some of the major difficulties my students usually have (maybe the same as yours). There are 7 exercises to differentiate vowel and consonant sounds, to differentiate z and s sounds an three exercises with the ending “ed” sound of regular verbs in the past. After the students do the exercises, they’ll find the transcriptions on the second page for auto-correction. The teacher may want to check it orally after their own correction. This is a worksheet which uses the story of the Chinese Zodiac to present ordinal numbers to Elementary students. 



Tips:



Before you begin Ex.2, and read the story, you may wish to pre-teach: ride, reach, scare, shore, emperor, push and sleepy.



Depending on where you are teaching, your students may already be familiar with the order of the animals. If so, elicit the animal names and the order then ask them to find and underline the ordinal numbers. 



The ordinals have a lot of difficult sounds such as '-th' and consonant clusters. When you drill the words after Ex.2, break down the words i.e "SI" - "XTH" -  "SI-XTH" - "SIXTH".



As an optional extension task, you could get the students to quiz each other i.e "Which animal was fourth?", "Which place was the snake?", "Who was before the sheep?" etc.

Ordinal Numbers in the Chinese Zodiac

A sequel to the already uploaded worksheet. Here the rules are only stated (no inductive reasoning). However there is another difference and this one could be used as a test, because at the bottom, the student has to decide whether to circle the bee or the snake ("z" sound or "s" sound) after putting each word in the plural.
