The Lego Story (Deep Listening Comprehension)

Kisdobos December 20, 2016

Task description & scene summary

Task description:
I created 12 multiple choice questions that test your students' understanding of some of the events retold here. I put in a lot of effort into always offering 2 other plausible options next to the correct one to prompt students to pay attention to every detail in the story.

The narration is slow-paced and well-articulated, with only a few advanced words, so I would classify the level as best fit for Pre-intermediate (A2) and Intermediate students (B1).

There are a few events that unfold at Christmas time, so with only few classes left before Christmas, I think it is a perfect time to do this video lesson this week.
Scene summary:
This 15-minute animated film, created for the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Lego company, recounts the history of the company from its humble beginnings.

  • Ole's wife died of a heartattack
  • Ole had 4 lazy sons

3) The visitor made a living from ...

  • buying and selling things in large quantities to other merchants
  • checking the quality of toys

4) The wholesaler ..., which was a disaster.

  • lost all his money and had to shut down his business
  • decided not to buy the toy he had ordered from Ole
  • didn't pay a good price for the toys, so Ole's family had a poor Christmas

5) Ole managed to ...

  • sell some of his toys for money and the rest for groceries
  • sell all of his toys and bought a lot of food for Christmas

6) The name LEGO ...

11) Ole's son ...
