Filter Bubbles by ESL Brains - Anna’s favourite video quizzes EP 05

In this episode we are showcasing a video quiz by our user ESL Brains, a great blog written by two English teachers who produce lesson plans around hot topics that will be relevant for most of the adult students you teach. Apart from showing you parts of the quiz, we will also give you a quick tour of the ESL Brains blog and say what we particularly like about their lesson plans - and talk about our shared mission! :)

The original video quiz can be found here on our site:

And here is the full lesson plan on the ESL Brains blog:

Enjoy!

Task description & scene summary

Task description:
Do you need the preposition "to" / "for" or not? This is an ESL / EFL video quiz to practice the two word orders possible with ditransitive verbs.

This quiz takes advantage of our new feature available in gapfill questions in the video quiz creator: the "zero gap". Students either have to fill in the missing preposition or leave it blank when they realize no preposition is necessary.

Transitive verbs are English verbs that take an object. Ditransitive verbs take two objects: (1) a direct object and an indirect object or (2) a direct object and an object complement.

A ditransitive verb accepts or may require an indirect object to complete its meaning—"the noun to whom something is given" or simply "the recipient".

There are two possible positions for the recipient or beneficiary of the action:

1. VERB + INDIRECT OBJECT (RECIPIENT) + DIRECT OBJECT
2. VERB + DIRECT OBJECT + "TO" or "FOR" + COMPLEMENT (RECIPIENT)
