A PowerPoint presentation to teach and practise USED TO.
First, students have to answer the questions 'What sport did you play when you were a little child?' and 'What didn’t you like doing when you were a child?". The next two slides show MY answers to these questions and the ways they can be answered (with the help of Past Simple and Used to). You can edit it sharing YOUR own experience.
After this short lead-in, the grammar forms of used to are demonstrated in the table. Then students have to say whether the statements given are true for them using the positive and negative form of used to. The next slide shows three statements about ME (make sentences about YOUR childhood if it differs from mine :D ). Two of them are true and one is false. Students have to guess which one is the false one. After that they make their own three statements where one is incorrect.
The next step is drilling the question form using the ideas on the slide or giving their own examples.
The last task aims at contrasting used to and present simple. Students describe two pictures (taken from the textbook English File Pre-Intermediate) comparing what the people used to be/do and what they are like and do now.
