Six very short passages with questions. The subjects are pretty much of a general knowledge nature. The level of language used is quite high, but even more elementary students should understand the questions and be able to elicit the answers. Insist on full sentence replies form more advanced classes. 

Mini Readings: History

This worksheet is based on a video about the pharaoh Tutankhamun and the incredible treasures found in his tomb. There are two listening comprehension exercises (gap-fill and True/False) and a vocabulary exercise (crossword puzzle). B/W copy and Answer Key provided.

King Tut and His Treasures

The students are supposed to learn about Anne Frank and boarden their knowledge on the WWII. It includes active vocabulary, open questions and mathing exercises. I'd advise you to invite you students for summarizing each paragraph and retelling it in class.

A text about the most important day in Australia: The Australia Day and how the australian celebrate this day. The text includes a brief explanation of the history of this day and why it's celebrated nowaday. It's perfect to introduce the Australian history and its national customs and symbols to your students.

This is a cloze test about the history halloween and in the text you can find out the origin of Halloween, its traditions and symbols more representative. The test consists in a video that pupils have to watch (the link is included in the text) and then they have to fill in the gaps in the text, and finally they have to answer some questions about the video they have just watched.

Hiroshima Atomic Bomb (Aug 06, 1945)

This is a webquest/research worksheet about the different aspects of segregation in the USA. In the first part, the students are invited to describe/comment on two photographs showing what segregation was. They will have to choose another picture (photograph or painting) to present to the class.

Beside this research, they will have to present an important figure of the movement (someone who fought for civil rights or a person in favour of segregation).

The lesson itself is about the trailer of the film Selma - the  British-American historical drama film directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb (2014)

There are 14 questions. Some of them ask the student's personal opinion so it's interesting to practise 'In my opinion...' 'I think...' structures. Maybe these questions can be answered in an oral way if it is a one-on-one class.
