I use this as an exercise in planning and structuring students' writing. The form of haiku are simple enough for young students to grasp, and the steps are designed to build a method to use when approaching longer form pieces of writing.

Sts. have to l ook at the landscapes and choose their favourite Season, and describe what they see. First the can talk about them, then they can write  about them too.

My Favourite Season.

The topic is holidays (and seasons). The idea is for the students to find out which word doesn't go with the others for some reason. I.e.: sail - sand - towel - spruce.
