Students revise the past simple tense, regular and irregular verbs. This is a fairly easy exercise for beginners to practice the past tense in its many forms  regular and irregular.

Past Simple Tense

A song activity based on the famous song of Wham, covered by Taylor Swift. There are several exercises, during the listen there are gaps to fill in past tense, multiple choices, then after they have to find specific verb tenses in the lyrics, find the meaning of some words/expressions, and discuss a couple of expressions. You are going to find on this newspaper article an interesting study according to how our healthy eating habits can help in lowering the risk of depression. There are two different exercises on this activity. The first one is a multiple choice exercise and the other has some sentences in which the students need to find the correct number that the sentences ask for in the text.

Past simple

Good speaking practise on some past simple irregular verbs. Students take turns asking and answering questions about actions which happened in their past. They can practise some prepositions of time as well.

Boardgame - Practice Past Simple with Irregular Verbs

Two sets of 13 questions that can be used to practise or reinforce the past simple. Give students some time to prepare and then let them practise in pairs. They should not show each other their questions; this doubles as a listening exercises. Encourage students to answer the questions as well as they can. Follow-up questions should be encouraged.

This activity is composed with a text about JK Rowling (short biography),  there are questions about the text (right or wrong + justification by quoting the text), grammar exercises (regular & irregular verbs of the text, sorting out the regular verbs according to the prononciation of "ed" ending, 2 exercises about the simple past (affrimative and negative forms) and a translation of a short part of the text in your mother language.

The use of a dictionnary is accepted in my case but you might chose not to use it. Everything isn't centered on JKRowling but I hope these activities will be useful !

This game is a speaking activity designed for the practice of the Past Simple.  The topics are not really complicated, so it's appropriate for low level and introduction to the Past Simple tense.
