Worksheet details
worksheet summary
This is a simplified version of battleship for children to practice the present tense of the verb to be in the affirmative and negative. They should already know a little bit of vocabulary (descriptions, activities) and have learned the present tense forms of the verb to be before playing the game. The goal is to elicit the correct form of the verb. The vertical column corresponds to the subject pronouns and the horizontal to the complement. The students must make a correct sentence including the verb to be (Ex: [vertical] HE + [horizontal [NOT TALL] = HE IS NOT TALL). Since young students may not know the game Battleship or it may be a bit complex, I just gave them a bunch of ship pictures (included) so they could put on the boards as they pleased. If the partner called an en empty box, we said EMPTY, if there was a ship there, we said SUNK. It took my 7 year-olds a little bit of time to get it, so just mimic the game several times.
