Saw this idea from another teacher. Ask each student to write down three items they'd take with them to a desert island. Then ask them to pair up and make them decide to bring only three things TOGETHER. Ask them why they choose one over the other. (My students chose bikinis over sheep because they want to sunbathe more. One group chose the rope cuz they want to hang themselves.) Then ask four students to be in one group and choose still three items to go with them. Also a good practice for ability. E.g. We need the sheep so that we can drink its milk. We need the sheep so that we can keep warm at night.
