NPR article (abridged by me, original link in document) on the psychology behind making attainable NY resolutions. Students read the article (individually, in pairs, as a class, etc.), identify any new vocabulary, and then answer the comprehension questions at the end. Then have students create their own NY resoultions using the advice laid out in the article. Activity can be used to practice the future tense (In 2021, I will exercise more) and certain phrasal verbs (Next year, I will give up sugar-cut down on coffee-take up yoga-brush up on my Chinese). See TeflLessons New Year's Phrasal Verb worksheet!

The above printable, downloadable handout is recommended for at Intermediate (B1) level. It is a useful material for teaching Future tenses, Phrasal verbs, Verb tenses and Future simple tense expressed with WILL in English, and is a valuable material for improving your learners' Reading skills. It focuses on the vocabulary topic of Holidays, New Year's Eve, Future and Addictions.
