This is a group activity. It is a dictation activity and irregular past tense review.
Students make groups of 3
Each student receives a different character handout: Mario, Alex and Hinata
Students take turns to read their lines in the conversation.
When one student reads, the other two group members listen and write the sentence. Then change so the next person in the conversation reads, and the other two members write.
When reading, students should also say punctuation (comma, period, question mark, exclamation mark).
The listening group members should also ask for spelling advice, if needed.
They should not show/ watch each other's papers!
In each sentence, there is also an irregular verb to change to past tense.
At the end, choose volunteers to read for the class, where the teacher can correct verbs, emphasize voice expression and help with pronunciations. Then groups will practice the conversation independently (1-2 times).
Note: This conversation includes casual conversation expressions ("yeah," "oh," etc.) so teachers should explain that these expressions are okay in conversation but should not be used in formal writing.
