Students learn interesting age related terms as well as idiomatic language.  They end the lesson using idiomatic language in a variety of role-plays.  I recommend that they practice all the role-plays and present one to the class.  Have fun with this one and don't be afraid to reveal your age!

"Friends" Episode:  The One Where They Turn Thirty

I am a teacher and also a volunteering firefighter. I often go to accidents and give first aid to the victims. Not beeing afraid of giving first aid is essential - that is why I teach first aid during my classes when I've got time. I prepared this worksheet to join fun & learning. The British Heart Fundation came up with a video with Vinnie Jones. It's a funny way to encourage the practise of performing CPR. The language is quite difficult so I do it with more advanced students. Hope it'll be useful for you.

First Aid Video Activity

More phrasal verb practice!  Appropriate for high intermediate  to advanced students.  Students work out the meanings of the phrasal verbs from context, then watch a FRIENDS episode to check their comprehension.  Also touches on gender stereotypes.  Finally students finish off with role-plays.  This lesson should last three hours or more.

This is another video activity. There are some discussion questions to get the topic under way and prepare the students for the language therein. It's a topic which should appeal to nearly everyone. 



There are some tasks to do while they're listening and a vocab focus on the verb get and it's different meanings, which I used in conjunction with an activity from Cutting Edge Upper Intermediate but you could do without it. If you know the different meanings the verb has you could draw your own diagram for the Ss to copy and use.

Can Men and Women be JUST friends?

This is a speaking and listening activity on the topic of Language extinction. The aim is for Ss to understand authentic listening material and to discuss the issue of language extinction. Ss will also be expected to use a number of phrasal verbs from the video - there is a controlled activity which encourages them to do this on the second page where they look at cartoons and pictures and talk about them using the given phrasal verbs. You could tipex out the phrasal verbs in the cartoons for Ss to complete
