Walk & Talk Activity. Students walk around the classroom and ask questions to find someone to do sports with them. Every time they find someone who agrees, they write the name of that student and ask for a signature to confirm. Finally, they write the total number of the students who agreed to do sports with them. Great 

practice of asking questions in the Simple Present Tense as well as using PLAY, DO , GO with sports.

Get ahead of the game with your students by introducing them to this powerful new song from Adele. Encourage students to predict from context possible rhymes etc. which of the BOLD-ened pairs of words they are likely to hear. Wk/sht has a simple while listening task. Students confirm if their predictions/ guesses were indeed correct. Hope you / they enjoy the song. Check out the video on Vevo / YouTube.

SONG 'When we were young' by ADELE

The starting point is a cartoon and students can confirm the rules in the grammar guide provided. They complete a table with irregular verb forms, decide if verbs are correct or incorrect, complete two cartoons and on the second page they fill in the gaps of a weekly planner with clues given, based on the pictures.

Grammar Guide + Exercises - Past Simple - Negative + Interrogative

Instructions:

1.	Put the students in groups of three or four.

2.	Each group gets two sets of cards. One with words in bold and one normal.

3.	They shuffle each set and spread each set separately, facing down.

4.	Students take turns. The first student takes one card from each set. If they match, He/she makes a sentence using however/although/but/etc.

5.	His/her groupmates should confirm the sentence is correct. If it is, he/she keeps the cards. If not, he/she puts them back.

6.	When the cards finish, the student with the most cards wins.



•	It’s a good idea to remind the Students to remember the place of the cards. It helps the game to flow smoothly.

•	Remind the students to use the correct verb tense. In most cases, simple present or simple past works.

Ss first try to guess the tense in which the verbs of the first part must be, then they listen to confirm. After that they can continue listening to the song and find the word errors in the second paragraph. This is a quick but fun idea for reviewing the differences between past simple and present perfect, since both are present in the first paragraph.

LEAD-IN

We start off brain storming the problems that you might have if you crashed on an island. I only elicit one or two answers before moving on to watch the trailer for CastAway (included in the Power Point). While they watch this, they add more ideas to the bubble on their worksheet and then discuss with a partner. * FEEDBACK: I usually get them to answer a full sentence in feedback `There are . . . .on the island` (no phones, no people, no boats) etc.



MATCHING

Beforehand, I explain the grammar form briefly and point out that the different colours in the sentences indicate past and infinitive forms of a word, and CCQ `Is this real/true or imaginary?` for meaning.

FEEDBACK - you can use the Power Point for this to reveal the answers. When they feedback, I get students to flip sentence halves around to highlight that the clauses can work both ways.

eg. `If I waswere cold, I would make a fire` and 

`I would make a fire if I was/were cold` etc.



WRITING AND SPEAKING

They then answer the four questions in the boxes, writing their own answers first (I explain `I would` and `I`d` and drill pronunciation a little). Then they walk around and ask each other the question with the approach `Can I ask you a question?`.



WRITING GAME

Finally in groups of 4, they answer two questions cards each (writing on separate pieces of paper), then jumble them up on their table. They then move to another table and try to match together the questions and answers of the other team. 



*Here I should really add a `gist` activity with simple questions like `Does the film have a happy or sad ending` etc. I sometimes just ask them afterwards to confirm their understanding.

Comparing animals and fruits.

This sheet is great for JR High school students low level. 

They can practice writing the sentence pattern and the final sentence they can write their own original sentence to confirm their understanding.

Comparatives 

An activity to practise /k/ and /g/ minimal pairs such as card and guard. You can give students the words first or just give the pictures for a harder version. Then use the gap fill activity to confirm the meaning of each word.

This lesson is designed for upper-intermediate learners (CEFR B2 level) who already have a solid foundation in English but are working on refining their grammatical accuracy and fluency, particularly with more advanced tenses like Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous. How Hard Is It to Learn English?: Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous.

“ed” Practice

I watched the game and folded laundry. We washed the dishes and listened to music. I decided to buy groceries so I walk to the store. I acted out of impulse and happened to buy junk food. I hurried to the cashier and asked about sales. She snickered and shared that she admired how much I wanted to be frugal. I rushed and finished my shopping, roamed into the parking lot, and jumped over the fence. I arrived home and confirmed with my wife that our schedule was established for the coming week. Then we watched Bohemian Rhapsody. It was directed by Brian Singer, and acted by a talented cast.



Speaking "ed" Practice

I use this activity as an opener at the beginning of a new term.  Ask students to work in pairs. Tell them must complete the badge with the missing pieces of information about his/her partner.  Students cannot ask any questions. When they have finished, they must use the appropriate register to confirm their answers.



(If they are beginner students, you should brainstorm which questions we ask about NAME, AGE, ADDRESS, FAVORITE PASTIME ACTIVITY AND NICKNAME beforehand.)
