You can use it and change whatever you want. There are some French words in it, so be careful to change it. 



It is a long video ( around 5 minutes) and there are lots of questions. 

I decided to add Norman Rockwell's painting to work on the typical dinner. 

Thanksgiving history

Two pictures of mealtimes - one breakfast and one dinner. It is a reading exercise. They read the sentences and decide if they are describing picture A or picture B. 

It's time to eat!

A short RC to preactise the present simple and some T/F questions which practise the present continuous. This one will suit younger pupils. NOTE: \'tea\' is a meal. Either sandwiches and snacks, or a full dinner, depending on the part of the country.

I use this activity when my students want to have a lesson over dinner or take a field trip to a bar :) 


Print out and cut, have Ss choose a certain number. The student asks their question to the other students and the others take turn answering. I encourage follow up questions and discussion if the question/answer is interesting. 


 

Conversation Starters

I made this fun team quiz for the last English lessons of term. It could also be used as a first lesson warmup for students above beginner level, or used multiple times with fresh questions. Students can work in small teams and make funny team names.

Round one (Spelling):

Round two (Mystery Pictures):

I showed the students warped or very zoomed in pictures of objects and animals and they simply have to write down what they see. Prepare to get some funny answers!

Round three (What's wrong?):

Students have to listen to and read the sentences and find the grammar mistake in each one. They then write down the correct word or grammar.

Round four (Shiritori):

Shiritori is a Japanese game where you have to write down as many words as possible in a certain time (2 minutes is good). Each new word has to start with the last letter of the previous word. Choose a category which all words must fit into, such as, animals, foods, or verbs.



Round five (Q & A):

The students listen to the question and write down an answer.

1: What is the biggest man-made structure on Earth? The Great Wall of China (it’s over 4000 miles long!).

2: Which is the smallest prefecture of Japan? Kagawa.

3: What is the 20th letter of the English alphabet? T

4: What is the second largest country in the world? Canada (Russia – 17,075,000sq.km / Canada – 9,985,000sq.km / USA – 9,827,000sq.km).

5: What letter is between ‘Y’ and ‘I’ on a computer keyboard? U

6: How do you say thank you in Spanish? Gracias.

(By all means, change the questions if you want to)



Award prizes such as stickers to the winning team of each round, or simply award the team with the biggest total score at the end.



The BIG English Quiz

A simple worksheet about food for young learners. Firstly, they have to finish writing the names of the foods in the pictures, then match and write the correct words to finish the sentences. Next, they can draw and label their favourite and least favourite foods, and finally a wordsearch using the vocabulary. (made using the vocabulary from Macmillan Tiger Tales 1unit 4 - Dinner Time)

Basic meals & food vocabulary. The worksheet consists of two activities, one where the meals "titles" have to be completed and then the words matched with the pictures, and the other where some sentences about meals and food have to be completed too.

It's a very easy worksheet for young learners.

This is not an original; it's a game a learnt from my grandmother and has provided hours of hilarity since! I now use it with my students to practice narrative structure, sequencing, and reported speech.



Here's how it works: Each student is given a copy of the w/s. They secretly write down the name of a famous man and then fold the paper over so that the 'Met' is showing. They pass the paper on clockwise and, with their 'new' sheet they write the name of a famous woman, fold it over so that 'At' is showing, and pass it on again clockwise. Do this until all the fields are completed... then pass it on one more time and each person takes a turn to read the narrative they're holidng!



Once you have the concept down pat you don't need to use the worksheet any more.
