I prepared this worksheet on the song Grenade by Bruno Mars, at the request of my students. It contains a variety of listening tasks (fill in the blanks, put the lines in the correct order, correct the mistakes), a vocabulary exercise, a grammar exercise on second conditional, and a set of comprehension questions. Printer-friendly version and Answer Key provided.

Present simple/continuous error correction with answers

This worksheet deals with the difference between present perfect and past simple tense. There are rules, charts and different exercises. Students must put the verbs into the correct tense, correct the mistakes,  and write a short letter.

Using this technique I finally managed to explain the difference in present tenses to my students.

1. Reading the text in the classroom.

2. Looking for PS/PC indicators (like: often, every day now, at the moment).

3. Colouring the verbs - different colours for PS/PC.

5. Students compare their answers with the frist sheet on their own (they love it!).

6. Reading the text to check if everyone corrected their mistakes.

7. Students fill the gaps using their memory and grammar knowledge.



8. Their homework s to simply read the text at home, at least 5 times



9. The teacher starts the next lessons with a quiz (sheet 2 or 3).

With this board game students will practise recognizing common mistakes. Please review necessary grammar points after the game (main focus is on subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, there is/are, comparison etc.). An enjoyable way to test basic grammar. Usage Note regarding the Â´familyÂ´ questions: In American usage, a collective noun takes a singular verb when it refers to the collection considered as a whole, as in: The family was united on this question. The enemy is suing for peace. It takes a plural verb when it refers to the members of the group considered as individuals, as in: My family are always fighting among themselves. The enemy were showing up in groups of three or four to turn in their weapons. In British usage, however, collective nouns are more often treated as plurals. Depending on your class and curriculum, you might want to adapt or replace this question.

Board Game - Correct or Not? (Elementary - Pre-intermediate)

This is a worksheet to practise and revise the present perfect. There are 50 sentences, the students have to check if the sentences are correct and to correct all the mistakes. 

I find this kind of exercises very useful for my students. The fact they don't know which sentences are correct, or how many mistakes there are, makes them put a lot of attention, double check every sentence and try harder to remember the rules. I hope you like it!

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
