This text is suitable for young learners or students with learning difficulties, pre-intermediate to intermediat level. The students have to read the text and answer the questions.

Designed to be used with The Grouchy Ladybug as a way to encourage students to think about their own behavior and what situations make them "grouchy".



Students can draw/color in their faces onto the ladybug, and either write a couple of sentences about what makes them grouchy, or copy a sentence you provide them (depending on their level of English)



I used this with 6 yr old ESL learners, with prompts they could copy from the board such as:



I feel grouchy when:



- I am hungry.

- I am tired.

- I am cold.

- I have to share.

A simple colouring task.

My younger students love to colour. Usually when they finish their tests or any other tasks, I usually give them a drawing for them to colour and then glue on their notebooks.

Now that Spring is coming this is just perfect.

Beetle Facts 

Adult beetles have two sets of wings.

Female beetles usually lay dozens or hundreds of eggs.

Most beetles only live for a year.

Beetles cannot see very well, so they communicate using pheromones, sounds or vibrations.

A pheromone is a chemical that sends signals to others of the same species or colony. For example, female insects can release pheromones to attract males for mating. Males may release pheromones that alert others of possible danger or to food.

Some beetles are not considered pests. "Ladybugs" are beetles and are considered to be good luck in many cultures. "Fireflies" and "Lightning bugs" are also beetles. They glow in the dark to communicate.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets
