Comprehension green sheep

English letters looking like sheep. Each sheep's name starts with the same sound as the corresponding letter. From my experience, young learners of English tend to remember the spelling of complicated words better when individual letters and combinations of letters are represented as sheep.

I made this as a warm-up activity for my advanced students.  It is an explanation of the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep, which is often taught to young children in English speaking countries.

Pyramid conversation discussion. Contains instructions. Students work alone to pick 3 items they'd take to a desert island (from a list of mostly useless objects). Then they must compromise with a partner and choose 3 together. Then once again in a group of 4. Works well with opinion vocabulary (I think we should; perhaps we ought to... etc.) and conditionals (if we were to take the sheep, we could..) and many other possible ways.

It will need some modification for younger learners, as one of the pictures is vodka.

This exercise is divided into 2 parts. In the first part children have to decide whether the animal is a pet, wild or farm animal. They stick them on the squares where the numbers are. In the second part children say what does the animal eat.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets
