Ss have to check the information on the chart, correct the mistakes and complete the ones in blank. They have a word bank to help them.

Present Continuous Speaking

I put students in groups of 4 or 8 and each group has a pack of speaking cards. They pull a card out of the bag and they have to speak for a predetermined amount of time, using the given structures. Of course, you could also set your own structures (there is/are could be used well here as well). Pictures are there for better presentation, otherwise they use their imagination and they don't describe the picture, but they speak about the situation.

They usually also all close their eyes, so they can imagine better when the classmate is speaking. They choose the best one from each group to speak in front of the whole class then.

SPEAKING CARDS (I can see someone +ing ...)

I typically give this as homework on Monday for students to bring in on Friday (for example).  It's a guided sheet for students to write about a dish from their country.  Students should choose a traditional dish and describe its taste, the ingredients, how it's made, and why they like it.  If they want extra points, they can make the food at home and bring it in to share with the class!  This is a great companion worksheet to go with a "food" unit.

Recipe Project with Traditional Foods

Fun activity for food vocabulary connecting with cooking. Students make list of ingredients then prepare a meal. Tips and explanation for the task included. It might be used with OHP.

In pairs or small groups , students talk about the questions in the boxes , paying special attention to the verb pattern (infinitive or gerund)

Gerund after prepositions (part 1) Speaking

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
