This B1-level worksheet explores how people in six different English-speaking countries spend their free time. Each page begins with a photo prompt for speaking or writing. Students first describe the picture, then read a short (~250 word) monologue from a speaker living in that city: Chilliwack, Brno, Wellington, Gold Coast, Manchester, and Austin. Each speaker talks about their hobbies, local lifestyle, and what people typically do in their area.

Each reading is followed by five Maturita-style multiple-choice comprehension questions. After reading, students learn useful lexical chunks (e.g. “In my free time I usually…”, “I'm into…”, “It’s common to…”) and complete a guided gap-fill exercise.

To support active use of language, students personalize the vocabulary by completing sentences about their own lives. Then, they work in pairs or with the teacher to answer speaking questions designed to build fluency and prepare them for the oral Maturita exam.

Use the photos at the top of each page as warm-up material. Students can describe what they see, what the people might be doing, and how that activity is popular (or not) in their country.
