Reading and Writing

This worksheet has some activities that center around the poem "Salutation to the dawn", supposedly written by the Indian author "Kalidasa", who lived some 2500-5000 years BC (the exact date is not clear).

The poem's message is about living each day mindfully and consciously so that you live and build a better life in general. I created the worksheet for a year nine ESL class in Germany.

It can serve as an introduction to poetry (poems don't have to ryhme) or as a filler activity because the poem is relevant for students' life as in year 9/10 they get closer to finishing school and - hopefully - have some thoughts about their future. If they don't have any, maybe they will have after working on this poem...

The above downloadable handout is meant for at Intermediate (B1) and Upper-intermediate (B2) level. It is useful for developing your pupils' Writing skills. It features the topic and words of Feelings, emotions.
