Future predictions

This is a simple worksheet to practise WILL for predictions. First ask students to describe how they see the future answering the questions provided. Then ask them to write 3 additional questions for their partner or any other person in the class they might feel like asking these questions. Though the activity is quite simple it is usually a success, because students love to share their views on the future of the humanity.

The lesson plan is created at the intermediate level of English. The reading comprehension and vocabulary exercises are designed to challenge students with some prior knowledge of English and to help them develop their skills in reading and understanding more complex texts. The grammar exercises focus on the future tense, typically taught at an intermediate level. However, the lesson plan can be adapted or modified to suit the needs and abilities of students at different levels.

Great activities for students who like to draw!

This is really two worksheets, but I used them in the same class. The first worksheet gives a picture and asks the students to guess what the thing will become in the future. The example is a tomato becomes ketchup.

The students write a sentence or two about their predictions, then draw a picture.



On the second worksheet,  the students write and draw about their own future jobs, homes, and families.



The worksheet currently uses "will" but it could easily be changed to use "going to"

New vocabulary for students include the words "become" and "creative".

Drawing the Future

Students will read three short texts about people and what they think will happen in the future. They then try to explain or translate some of the vocabulary listed below the text and complete a simple worksheet. By this, they practice using the future simple tense and thinking about the future.

This is an  activity that helps students revise the use of WILL and WON'T. Students complete the text with the missing words, complete some sentences with will/won't and the verbs in brackets, and finally do a writing task. Key included.

Future with WILL / WON'T - Back from the future

This game is SO FUN to play with ESL students and practice the future simple. Students will write down questions about the future using the future simple tense or "going to". (Examples: Will I be rich? Am I going to be a nurse?) Then students will watch the video to see a retro Magic 8 Ball give predictions. The video contains fun magical style music and example questions for inspiration. There are over 40 different predictions, so you can use this game again and again! You can also use this as a speaking activity and each students takes turns asking questions before the answer is revealed. Pause the video if you need more time.
