Word Building - Prefix & Suffix

BilboBaggins 2016-08-24 08:20:34

Slides show various examples of how base words can be expanded with prefixes and suffixes.

I would ask the class to shout out what suffix or prefix could be added to each base word. The following slide of each word shows an example word. Obviously, multiple suffixes or prefixes could work for some of the words given.

Under each word, I've added definitions and word classes to help show how word forms and meaning change with the addition of prefixes and suffixes.

Use or modify as you wish.

The present downloadable printable is meant for at Advanced (C1), Intermediate (B1), Pre-intermediate (A2), Proficient (C2) and Upper-intermediate (B2) level. It is aimed at consolidating Prefixes (e.g. A, UN, IM, DIS, MIS, EN, etc. ), Suffixes (e.g. S, ED, ING, N'T), Word classes and Word formation in English, and is excellent for honing your groups' Listening, Reading, Speaking and Spelling skills.
