Likes and dislikes

This ws is to help students come into contact with phrasal verbs a little and to boost conversation skills.  Every has an opinion, right?  This will help students to talk about their own lives after they have analysed the lives of some fictional characters and offered their advice on what to do in that kind of situation.

This worksheet sheds light in the rules & difference between prefer and would rather. A short explanation is given at the beginning with a few exercises for practice.  

Prefer & Would Rather

This is a vocabulary list designed to help students describe things (tangible and intangible) more effectively. This can be used to enhance students' writing or conversation skills. 

Adjectives Describing Things

I used this ESL activity with music. Once the music starts students must walk around. When the music stops they need to ask another student 'Do you like X?' If the response is "Yes", the interviewer should write down the student's name. If the answer is no, they need to move on until they find someone who does.



Then once the music begins the question time stops and walking starts again.

Some simple tasks to practise 'like' and other verbs which require the gerund structure after them.



Students have to fill in the gaps with the verbs after they look at the symbols. Then they write how they feel about doing this or that thing. And after that, they should write the missing information about their friend.

What do you like doing

Reading and writing activities. The students should read about three girls free time activities and do a matching activity, then answer some questions about the texts and finally, write a short text about themselves using "love, hate, can't stand' be + into, be + interested in, etc"

Cut out the cards. Students work in pairs, put the cards face down and Like-Dislike cards face up on the desk. Then they take turns and say whether they like smth or not and explain why. Hope it\'s useful!

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
