This ESL worksheet is good to talk about likes and dislikes. It can be used for speaking, practice conversation or writing. Useful practice to deepen the understanding and use of Would and allows students to get to know each other.

Likes and dislikes

This worksheet sheds light in the rules & difference between prefer and would rather. A short explanation is given at the beginning with a few exercises for practice.  

Prefer & Would Rather

Some simple tasks to practise 'like' and other verbs which require the gerund structure after them.



Students have to fill in the gaps with the verbs after they look at the symbols. Then they write how they feel about doing this or that thing. And after that, they should write the missing information about their friend.

Students have to fill in the given verbs in gerund (-ing form) after the verbs like / don´t like / love / hate / enjoy. Hope you like it and you can use it.  Hugs Ines   ;)

Talking about likes and dislikes. Introducing the verb 'to like', present simple affirmative and negative sentences. For low level beginners without much grasp of grammar.

Hobbies

Students work in pairs to fill in the missing information about each person in the chart. To do this they ask and answer questions using the verb to be (e.g What's his name?, How old is she?, Where are they?, etc)

The last column is for students to ask the same questions to each other (e.g. What's your name?, What's your job?, What are your hobbies?, etc)

Personal File (the verb 'to be')

This ‘would rather’ speaking activity helps students develop accuracy in the use of the structure would rather + base verb. Your class should have studied the structure prior to doing this activity.

Would you rather? Conversation Task

Readings about a person's hobby. Reading helps broaden vocabulary about hobbies, skills to fill in gaps, and skill in finding key ideas of reading text. Exercises suitable for elementary students. 

READING AND FILL IN THE BLANKS 

A classic 'Find Someone Who' ESL mingle activity but with gerunds and infinitives. This activity only uses seven verbs: love, want, enjoy, try, start, learn, and finish. A great ESL activity to complement lower level classes learning about gerunds and infinitives for the first time.

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
