In this worksheet you'll find a paragrapgh (related to Harry Potter's story) to complete with the right form of the verbs in the simple past tense (regular and irregular forms) and a reading comprehension activity.

Harry Potter Meets the Past Tense

Here students can practise some things people do during their holidays. So first they match the actions with the pictures. Then they rewrite the sentences in the Past Simple. You can also ask students to make TRUE sentences about themselves and their holidays - this way they can also practise the negative form with "didn't". Key and greyscale are included.

Students revise the past simple tense, regular and irregular verbs. This is a fairly easy exercise for beginners to practice the past tense in its many forms  regular and irregular.

Grammar Review - Past Simple Tense

Use to review daily routine in Present Simple and to introduce Past Simple tense. Students recycle the same verbs throughout the session to develop the feel for the past tense and how it works - also to differentiate between regular/irregular verbs prior to moving on to more irregular verbs.

Good speaking practise on some past simple irregular verbs. Students take turns asking and answering questions about actions which happened in their past. They can practise some prepositions of time as well.

Boardgame - Practice Past Simple with Irregular Verbs

This activity is composed with a text about JK Rowling (short biography),  there are questions about the text (right or wrong + justification by quoting the text), grammar exercises (regular & irregular verbs of the text, sorting out the regular verbs according to the prononciation of "ed" ending, 2 exercises about the simple past (affrimative and negative forms) and a translation of a short part of the text in your mother language.

The use of a dictionnary is accepted in my case but you might chose not to use it. Everything isn't centered on JKRowling but I hope these activities will be useful !
