Mixed Past Tenses Exercise (Past simple, Past continuous and Past Perfect)

This WS was an attempt to adapt an extra activity suggested by Face2Face-Intermediate – 

Unit 4 (Teacher’s book) in which students were supposed to create a story (based on 30

questions) about an adventure in the forest. . What we did was to adapt it   and use a similar idea to help students work on integrated skills; reading, writing,speaking they had to create questions to communicate with peers about the story). It gave them the opportunity to revise verb tenses in context and as a follow-up they  wrote their own version of an adventure. The story was divided into three parts, given in 3 different classes.

Past Perfect, Past Simple or Past Continuous

Instructions:



•	Watch the video. 

•	Combine the two sentences into one sentence. 

•	Use a linking word such as when, while, because, so, and, etc. to link the sentences. 

•	Do not change the order of the clauses.

•	Change the verb forms used if necessary (e.g. “He went…” to “He was going…” or “He had gone”).

Mixed Past Tenses - Mr. Bean Video Activity

The given board game is aimed to help students understand the difference between Past Simple and Past Perfect. 

Students work in pairs or groups of 3-4, they throw a dice and make a sentence using right forms of the verbs given in brackets. Keys are provided.

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
