A text plus some activities I created for reading comprehension and revising the past simple. The story is fairly simple. It may be used with A2  students. The handout  includes a vocabulary task, a speaking task (comprehension questions), and a grammar task (regular and irregular past verbs). 

Spiral Reading - Romantic Tale - Comprehension + Grammar

A listening/discussion/writing worksheet based on the song "Just When I Needed You Most" by Smokie.

The listening part is a gap fill exercise. I suggest to play the song once first, before handing out the worksheet. For the first three verses the missing words are given 1) in the wrong order 2) with the letters mixed up and 3) in the wrong order. For the remaining verses the missing words aren't given. A key (full lyrics) is included. A part of the gap fill, almost all verbs have been omitted from the song so this worksheet could also be used as a lead in to practice irregular and regular verbs.

For the discussion part I have included a couple of questions to invite the students to think about the song and give reasons for what might have happened.

As for the writing part, students are asked to compose a short letter from "him" to "her" and it would be fun to share these letters with the class and vote for the most romantic just to end the class on a high note. Alternatively, if you want to omit the writing part, just get the students to sing the song together for a little bit of fun.

Song for beginners, elementary and pre-intermidiate students. Worksheet with listening tasks. It is a trendy exercise song that will appeal to teen English learners.

Listening exercise for young learners- I used it for grade 4 ESL- practice vocabulary, and simple past.
 Students fill out the WS while listening the song. several question types, including order the sentences, choose the correct word, fill in the blank.
