Long a vowel sound

Allow students to recognize the difference between long vowel and short vowel sounds. The teacher can read the words as the students determine which is being asked for.

Print these onto heavy paper and use them to teach short & long vowels. You can have students sort them, group rhyming words, split out the short from the long vowels and read them separately, or read short-long/short-long etc. You can use them to explain different rules that force vowels to be short or long, etc.
