Reducing plastic waste 

Tell the students they are going to read about the three Rs of the environment. Write ‘The three Rs’
on the board. Give each student one worksheet and tell them they have two minutes to read
the article. Tell the students they need to answer ‘A. What are the three Rs of the environment?’
Stop the students after two minutes and let them write down the answers. Then ask the students
to compare their answers in pairs.

This two-part activity ESL climate worksheet is good as a culmination knowledge classroom and group discussion and speaking exercise reviewing about what they have learned followed by cutting, arranging and pasting carbon footprint action steps that they and their families can take to reduce their carbon footprints.  Have your students first arrange the carbon-reducing steps from top to bottom on their desks to test previous knowledge and then show the video and have students glue them in place in their notebooks.  You might also want to include a chart on your PPT after the movie that shows the final pasting order as there are several versions to choose from.  Enjoy!  

Best Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint - Climate Change PBS

My dictation exercise includes listening, writing, speaking and scanning and comprehension. There are four sheets to my dictation exercise. 

1.	An article sheet for you to read to the student. 

2.	A vocabulary sheet for the student, send this to the student. 

3.	A question-and-answer (Q&A) sheet for the student. This is also sent to the student.
 
4.	A question sheet for you to read to the student. 

I suggest you copy and paste into four different documents. The question-and-answer sheet can be used for other dictations. 

I convert the vocabulary, and question and answer sheet to pdf format, as the student’s device doesn’t need MS Word installed for it to display or print. 

Send or give the vocabulary sheet and Q&A to the student. Dictate the questions to the student. Then check they’ve written them fully by asking them to read the questions they’ve written. Be aware some will attempt to write only a couple of key words! Next you read the article to the student, but not too fast. I usually read it twice, maybe emphasizing the answers. Finally, you ask the student the questions and check their answers.  Maybe re-read the relevant part so they can hear the answer.

There are two different exercises on this activity. The first one is a multiple choice exercise and the other has some sentences in which the students need to find the correct number that the sentences ask for in the text.
