SPOT THE DIFFERENCES

A great Spot the Differences picture! With mine, first I put the pictures up and play 'Splat!'. Then I give out the pic and they circle the differences. Next - Which picture? Then, a few comparisons (as on p.2). Then, it's their turn. I leave them with just the pictures. Beginners have to write 10 words; the others can write full sentences. Any advanced students can make up a story about the picture. I have included a little word scramble ex and T or F. KEY INCLUDED.

They compare two pictures. First, supply 'There is' or 'there are'  and say which picture is being described. Next, they put the verb into the present continuous and once again, decide which picture is being described. 

Spot the differences

They have to spot the differences between the two living rooms. This will practise basic structures. There are ten differences given on page 2. This can be given as a pair work exercise. 

Students look at the pictures and spot the differences using there is / are. They also have to write sentences using prepositions

This is designed for pair work. One partner has picture A, the other has picture B. Taking turns, they ask each other the questions and write down their answers. At the end, they compare their answers.The differences are in Numbers 1,6,7,9,11.  Then, they can write them up. If you just want this as a straightforward 'spot the difference', the questions are in text boxes - just remove them. I copied this idea from kisdobos!

Spot the Differences 

Two pictures, to which I have added extra differences. Students have to read the sentences and decide if they are describing A, B or both. Then they can single out the differences. A full key is included. A classic ESL task.

A great picture. In these exercises, they have to put the verb into the correct form of the present continuous, then say which picture the sentence is about. NB - they need to know the spelling rules of adding 'ing', Fyi - exiting has only one t. Number 12 is true of both pictures. For advanced students, you could do it as a straightforward, Spot the Difference exercise. 

There are five differences. The pictures are great for speaking practice - present continuous tense, prepositions, there is/there are. On page 2, they decide which picture is being described and they replace the missing words to explain the differences. That exercise serves as a key. 

First, they decide which picture the sentences are describing and pit a cross in the right box. Then there is a TRUE or FALSE activity and finally they write full sentences comparing the differences. These exercises are not as easy as they look, but I have included all the vocabulary they need and examples. 

Sts are asked to spot the difference and write sentences as: In pic 1 the boy is eating an Apple but in pic 2 he's  eating......

These pictures are of the same scene with many differences. Some sentences are included to help them by saying whether the sentences describe picture A, picture B or both.

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
