Children should describe items on the cards without using certain given words.

These are halloween taboo cards to play with children, teens and adults. The easier ones are on the first page. You can use them to play with the vocabulary or to make them practice relative clauses, pronouns and adverbs. E.g. It's a person who... It's an animal which...  You can ask them to play in teams in a competitive way or with the whole class in cooperation.

Taboo Game 

This is an example of taboo game cards. I used it with my Business English students in Uruguay, but it can be adapted to other cultures. 

One student picks up a card and has to make the other students guess the word in bold without using the other words and without drawing or pointing at things. It can be played with or without time limit, depending on the level of the students.

This is a game based on Taboo in which 36 cards are provided. Each card has a word to be defined (at the top) and five words the person who defines has to avoid. A different version, adapted to lower levels, is to use those forbidden words as help to define the upper word. I recommend to print this set of cards four times, each set in a different colour and laminate them.

Slips for the game of taboo.  Students must describe the word to their partner or group within a given time limit, without using the word itself or any of the words listed below.  The student with the most points once all the slips are used up is the winner.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
