Just a very simple worksheet on some common homophones. Maybe you discuss them together first, or you simply let your students have a go on them. A five-minute activity.

Homophones #1

Shows a list of words that vary only by one vowel sound. 

/ɒ/ (short 'o') and /əʊ/ (long 'o). 



This can be used to help students understand the different pronunciations and practice the different words.

Pronunciation poem

A lot of English learners have difficulty in differentiating L and R sounds, for example in the words 'lock' and 'rock'. I made these worksheets to help with teaching the different pronunciation of minimal pairs like this, and also to clarify the meaning. Students match the words to the pictures, then put the words into example sentences. Hope you find it useful.

Pronunciation - W and V sounds

Simple flow chart that you can use to determine the pronunciation of the final -ed in regular verbs and -ed ending adjectives. Start at the top by inputting the infinitive, check if the final sound is /t/ or /d/ and then if it is voiced or voiceless. you will see it is very easy.

List of words difficult to pronounce. It can be used as a spelling practice with your suited or adjusted and turned into vocabulary practice. The words are suitable for B2/C1 level.

Students have to identify the silent letters, copy the words into the correct box according to the silent letter. Finally students should practise the tonguetwisters.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
