TECHNOLOGY - Debate cards

This is an activity I developed based on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu9KXQmL2d8&feature=youtu.be, and it's up to you whether you wish to show it to the class or not, it's not really necessary (the video is really short, though, and can be of great help in case your students have trouble with some of the vocabulary!). Two pages, with exercises on the use of expressions like MAKE SURE TO/DON'T FORGET TO/REMEMBER TO etc.

"10 Inventors Killed By Their Own Inventions" (GIVING RECOMMENDATIONS)

Revolving around Inventions, this set of Taboo Cards requires pupils to work in groups of 3 or more. Naturally, mimes and gestures are not allowed as communicative 'props' as pupils describe the invention on their card. A teacher may optionally join the group with a copy of the game to help, should communicative problems arise as a result of restricted lexical options. In that regard, the cards are numbered to facilitate communication between the teacher and the student. As always, the worksheet is fully editable.

SPACE THE FINAL FRONTIER

Another set of phrasal verb worksheets, this time with the preposition "up" and on the subject of technical problems and repairs. As always, there is a mix-and-match section which can be consolidated with a game of bingo before doing the gap-fill section. This is consolidated further with a story that is related in some way to the theme and then there is a debate that is related in some way to the story. There is also a mock part four of the Reading and Use of English section of the FCE exam which can be used a week or two later to jog the students' memories. Useful for engineers, mechanics, fitters, IT technicians, builders, architects etc. Answers are at the back.
